Fear of Things That Matter

"You were never afraid of the dark?"

They're on Clark's bed, staring at a ceiling they can't see. He needs some of those glow-in-the-dark stars for occasions just like this, but Clark says they're tacky. 'They don't compare to the real thing,' he had explained.

"I could never be bothered," Lex tells him. "There were always more important things to be afraid of."

Clark rolls closer, and Lex can't help but move with the bed. "But not me, right?" Clark asks. "Are you afraid of me, Lex?"

"Well, there's nothing more important than you."
