When they came home from dinner, Lex turned on the TV to catch the late news. He made himself comfortable on the couch, took his shoes off, and put his feet up on the coffee table. It was almost midnight.

If he let Clark have a TV in the bedroom, they could be there now. In bed, Clark would have a better chance of distracting Lex from CNN. But Lex had places for everything and the living room was for watching TV. Eating was done in the kitchen, working in the office, sleeping and sex happened in the bedroom.

Clark watched over Lex's shoulder, just long enough to get the Sharks score. They lost.

"I'm going to bed," he said next to Lex's ear. Lex twisted back to smile up at him, then turned back to the news.

In the bathroom, Clark stripped his clothes into the hamper and took a shower. He repeated the lather and rinse for the first time in his life, standing in the shower too long and hoping Lex would join him. Lex wasn't in bed either, when Clark stepped out, scrubbing his hair dry. He slipped naked under the covers and tried not to touch himself, waiting for Lex. Clark fell asleep alone.

It didn't matter, though, because Lex's hand was low on his stomach and Lex's lips on the back of his neck when Clark woke up.
