The first time Lex goes to bed alone, he wonders if maybe they made a mistake. But it's only the first time, and Clark's in college, so Lex doesn't say anything.

The second time it happens, he starts thinking back to the conversations they had in Smallville. Everyone told Clark that moving in with Lex right out of high school was a bad idea. Lex was right there for most of the speeches that became sermons.

Nobody told Lex that he was the one making the mistake.

Clark hasn't stopped moving since they arrived. He's up and out early every morning, combing the city and finding new haunts. When Lex comes home from work, he gets dragged to bed and discovers Clark's new energy works for them both.

The third time Lex falls asleep alone, he wakes an hour later to a phone call. He can just hear Clark above the pounding music.

"I think I'm drunk, Lex. The bartender's been giving me free drinks all night."

"That means he wants to fuck you, Clark."

There's a banging sound, more music, and Clark saying 'fuck' in underneath it all.

"Sorry. Dropped the phone."

Lex doesn't say anything, just waits for Clark to get to the point.

"I woke you up, didn't I?"

"What do you want, Clark?" He rolls over onto his back and stares at the ceiling.

"I don't want to fuck the bartender, Lex."
